The Denver Zoo in the United States has got a new kid to grow looking cute, little and strange which is one of the 24 nocturnal lemurs in the country. The beautiful little Aye-Aye looks like a tiny squirrel with starring round eyes, a small host like fingers and body laid on the ground.The creatures which have Madagascar as its native is an endangered species and is been drastically reduced in population for last three decades due to hunting and is expected to lose rest of the population of these creatures in a couple of decades going by the current survey.
The newborn Aye Aye is named as Tonks which is a character in Harry Potter, Nymphadora Tonks and the mother and father of the baby Tonks names are Bellatrix and Smeagol which are character names from Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. The mom lemur didn’t look after Tonks initially and hence it required to be taken care of all the day and Bellatrix is been trained to nurse the baby while it had put on some weight.
The strange fingers of an Aye-Aye are the special features that are used by them for preying on insects by chewing holes into the barks of a tree and take the insects out to make their meal. These lemurs give birth to a baby at the age of 3 and keep on reproducing baby lemurs once in 2-3 years gaps.ads
Now the mother is taking care of the little Tonks properly and is monitored by the zoo 24x7 and the baby aye-ayes are left to live with the mother up to the age of two for safe growth. Meanwhile, the parents of Tonks, Bellatrix and Smeagol are 11 and 8 years old respectively brought to the Denver Zoo by late 80s.
